My dear MacDougall,
Very many thanks for your letter
from Madres. We were in fact, in the dark as to the stages of your chequered progress from here, but we now at any rate know that you are on the ground and have your hands more than full. We are not at all clear as to what precisely the
but Military Administr tion's organisation is, Admiral Harcourt and you are no doubt sifting it. We look forward enormously to hearing from you when you are able to sit down for & moment. Please give our love to all the brethren, and especially to Rouse.
Your "Honour" suggestions are recorded, but you will understand that being soldiery, your people may have to be reserved for treatment by the military authorities so long as you are soldiery. If I had my way I would make you all "Royal Highnesses" straight away.
Yours sincerely,
(sgd.)
Brigadier D. M. MacDougall.
